An Evening with Japanese Shibori for Beginers
Join our evening masterclass to explore the ancient Japanese art of Shibori, a refined tie-dye technique that embraces imperfections and surprises. In an intimate setting of just four participants, you'll learn to dye with indigo while experimenting with various Shibori methods, allowing you to create unique patterns and designs each time you attend.
Rhyannan Hall's teaching practice is a vibrant extension of her artistic work, focusing on textile dyeing and shibori techniques.
Since 2016, she has led workshops at various institutions, including the Bristol Folk House, where she developed a comprehensive curriculum in textile dyeing. Since 2022, Rhyannan has expanded her offerings to include workshops from her own studio and guest instruction at notable events such as the Hyper Japan Festival and the Summer School for the Associated Guild of Spinners, Weavers, and Dyers. Her emphasis on sustainable practices shines through in her natural dyeing workshops at venues like Makershed Bristol and Winterbourne Barn, where she promotes environmentally friendly techniques.
In addition to hands-on teaching, Rhyannan is a sought-after public speaker on topics related to sustainable fashion and traditional Japanese textile methods. She has presented at events like Sustainable Fashion Week and the Japanese Embassy, sharing insights on visible mending and Arashi shibori. Rhyannan's commitment to sustainability extends to her repair workshops, where she teaches techniques for mending and prolonging the life of textiles.
