Amoebic Alchemy: East Asian-Inspired Natural Dye Artworks
During the 2020 lockdown, a series of captivating paintings emerged, born from the alchemical reactions of natural dyes. These works, reminiscent of amoebic forms coming to life, draw influence from the Sumi-e ink paintings of China and Japan.
These pieces balance softness with density, creating a sense of expressive, spontaneous movement. The Rhyannan’s technique masterfully captures the fluid and reactive nature of the dyes, allowing them to interact and form organic shapes that seem to pulse with life.
