Chromatic Conversations: Shibori, Interactivity, and the Emotional Power of Color
In September 2019, an innovative artist residency at The Island culminated in a multi-faceted exhibition that invited viewers to engage deeply with the concept of color. The centerpiece, "Contemplations on Colour," was an interactive installation that posed provocative questions about color associations, encouraging participants to reflect on their perceptions of hues in various contexts. This thought-provoking experience was complemented by revelations about color history, inspired by "The Secret Lives of Colour."
The exhibition was preceded by public workshops that delved into personal relationships with color through creative exercises. These sessions explored the contextual nature of color preferences and the emotional impact of different palettes. Alongside the interactive elements, the artist's shibori work was displayed, its abstract nature inviting viewers to consider the somatic and emotional responses evoked by color. The exhibition was rounded out by a dedicated space screening a film about indigo, further expanding the exploration of color's cultural and historical significance.
