Reimagining Fashion: Rhyannan Hall and Dr. Laura Morgan's Textile Showcase
Rhyannan presented her work as part of Sustainable Fashion Week, showcasing the potential of textile art in creating an environmentally regenerative and socially just future. Her exhibition, featuring Boro-inspired mending pieces, demonstrates a unique approach to prolonging the life of garments through creativity, care, and repair.
Drawing inspiration from the Japanese tradition of 'Boro', meaning tattered or repaired, Rhyannan adapts this method to suit Western textiles and pattern cutting. Her work not only adds a new layer of history to well-loved garments but also challenges the linear model of growth in the global fashion economy. Through her Boro Repair Society, Rhyannan offers workshops alongside the exhibition, empowering individuals to reimagine their relationship with clothing and contribute to a more sustainable fashion ecosystem.
Exhibiting alongside Rhyannan is Dr. Laura Morgan, a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Print Research, UWE Bristol. Dr. Morgan's research focuses on sustainable textile design, exploring the intersection of craft, digital technologies, and sustainability. Her work investigates alternatives to chemical dyeing and finishing, integrating bio-based dyeing processes with digital technology to create more environmentally friendly textile production methods.
