Imaginative Collaboration: Escaping Lockdown with Paper Cranes

During the winter lockdown of 2021, Rhyannan embarked on a whimsical project that brought a touch of magic to the confines of home.

Collaborating with photographer Alastair Brooks, they created a series of captivating images that play with scale and perspective, featuring Rhyannan and their friend Maria surrounded by a flock of paper cranes.

The project began with the folding of around a hundred paper cranes, a meditative process that provided a creative outlet during challenging times.

The centerpiece of the collection was a giant crane crafted from green screen paper, allowing for imaginative digital manipulation. These elements came together in a series of photographs that transport the viewer to a fantastical world where giant paper cranes carry people on imaginary journeys to Japan, offering a playful escape from the realities of lockdown.
